"Our 130 year old 3-story Victorian home suffered a fire that burned the kitchen wing and filled the 2-story portion with heat and smoke. The contractor our Insurance Company recommended, Belfor International, did not do a good job and we were forced to fire them while our home was in a partially completed state with much of Belfor's work needing to be redone.
"We hired John Thill of Spacious Living Construction, Inc to clean up the previous contractor's efforts and finish the job. Hiring Spacious Living to complete the restoration was one of the smartest decisions we have ever made. Such a change! Now we had a contractor who cared about his work, a contractor who met with us weekly to discuss progress and help us with the decisions needed, a contractor who was financially meticulous in his estimates and billings.
"This was not an easy project. The building was a registered landmark historical structure. The entire project was carefully watched by the Santa Cruz Historical Commission and by the city's building department. SLC worked closely with our architect, Craig Bagley, and the city and us to produce an outstanding building; a building ready for another 130 years.
"John Thill, the owner of Spacious Living, is an easy person to like. He is both honorable and highly conscientious, very detail oriented. We could not have found a better contractor to bring our Victorian built in the 19th century into the 21st, while retaining its original look and feel. In addition, his selection and control of various subcontractors was vital to the final outstanding end results.
